Pakistan International Airlines has announced the formal launch of its pre-Hajj operation from April 19, under which more than 55,000 pilgrims will be transported to Saudi Arabia through 191 flights from across Pakistan.
According to a PIA spokesperson, 49,000 pilgrims will travel under the government Hajj scheme, while over 6,000 pilgrims associated with private Hajj group operators will also be facilitated through PIA flights.
The first flight of the operation, PK-747, is scheduled to depart from Sialkot for Madinah, carrying more than 390 pilgrims.
Under the operation, PIA will transport over 15,400 pilgrims from Islamabad through 46 flights. From Karachi, more than 15,000 pilgrims will travel via 55 flights, while Lahore will see 12,377 pilgrims transported through 34 flights.
Other arrangements include 3,680 pilgrims from Faisalabad via 23 flights, 5,383 from Multan through 13 flights, 2,075 from Sialkot through five flights, and 4,487 from Quetta via 15 flights.
The first Hajj flight from Quetta is scheduled for April 21, while Karachi’s first flight (PK-743) will depart on April 23 carrying 391 pilgrims. Lahore’s first Hajj flight will depart on April 24 with more than 300 pilgrims.
PIA officials said dedicated teams at airports in Pakistan and Saudi Arabia will assist pilgrims throughout the travel process. The pre-Hajj operation is expected to continue until May 21.
The airline’s Chief Executive Officer has directed all departments to ensure smooth operations and warned that no negligence in service delivery will be tolerated.
Separately, private airline AirSial also commenced its Hajj operations, with its first flight departing from Karachi carrying 160 pilgrims. The Pakistan Airports Authority confirmed that flight PF-7700 took off early in the morning.
Under the “Road to Makkah” initiative, immigration procedures are being completed at departure airports in Pakistan to streamline travel for pilgrims.
