Islamabad gears up for likely second round of US–Iran talks amid regional tensions

Authorities in Islamabad have stepped up preparations for a possible second round of talks between the United States and Iran, as diplomatic efforts continue to sustain a fragile ceasefire in the Middle East.

According to diplomatic sources, logistical and security arrangements are being reviewed in the federal capital, although no final date has been confirmed for the next round of negotiations.

The proposed talks follow earlier high-level discussions held in Islamabad, which marked the most senior direct engagement between Washington and Tehran in decades. Those negotiations, facilitated by Pakistan, ended without a final agreement but were seen as a key step in opening sustained diplomatic channels.

Sources said Pakistan is continuing contacts with both sides to finalise scheduling and procedural details for the next round, which could take place in the coming days if consensus is reached.

The United States and Iran have been engaged in indirect and direct diplomacy aimed at maintaining a ceasefire and addressing broader issues, including regional security, nuclear concerns, and the status of key maritime routes such as the Strait of Hormuz.

Pakistan has played a central mediating role in facilitating communication between the two sides and hosting previous rounds of talks, which have also drawn attention from regional and global powers.

Officials involved in the process say discussions remain fluid, with both Washington and Tehran yet to formally confirm participation in a new round.

Diplomatic sources added that regional stakeholders continue to support efforts aimed at preventing escalation and encouraging a negotiated settlement.

The situation remains under close watch as preparations continue and diplomatic engagements intensify.
