Pakistan has reiterated its commitment to facilitating a peaceful resolution between the United States and Iran, offering “all-out support” to both sides as diplomatic efforts to secure a negotiated settlement continue.
The reaffirmation came during a meeting between Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at the Prime Minister’s Office in Islamabad, according to an official statement issued on Thursday.
The leadership reviewed Pakistan’s ongoing mediation efforts aimed at achieving sustainable peace in the region and expressed satisfaction over the current level of de-escalation, while urging all parties to maintain the ceasefire.
“The leadership appreciated the restraint demonstrated by all sides and reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to facilitate and provide all-out support to both sides to arrive at a peacefully negotiated settlement,” the statement said.
Officials noted that Pakistan has emerged as a key diplomatic channel between Washington and Tehran in recent weeks, following heightened regional tensions and a temporary ceasefire agreement.
The statement added that Pakistan will host delegations from the United States and Iran this weekend as part of continued peace talks, following what Islamabad described as progress under its mediation framework.
In a separate development, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also held a telephone conversation with Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, condemning Israeli military actions in Lebanon and offering condolences over civilian casualties.
The Lebanese premier reportedly welcomed Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts and requested continued support in seeking an immediate end to hostilities.
Both sides agreed to remain in close contact as regional tensions continue to evolve.
