PM Shehbaz Reaffirms Pakistan’s Commitment to Work Closely with Iran in Letter to Mojtaba Khamenei

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening ties with Iran in a letter addressed to the country’s new Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office.

In his message, the premier congratulated Khamenei on assuming the responsibilities of Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, expressing hope that he would guide the country toward peace, stability and prosperity.

Sharif also conveyed condolences over the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in recent strikes amid the ongoing conflict in the region. He said the development had deeply saddened the people of Pakistan and reaffirmed solidarity with the leadership and people of Iran during the difficult period.

Highlighting longstanding bilateral ties, the prime minister said relations between Pakistan and Iran were anchored in shared faith, history, culture and language. He reiterated Islamabad’s commitment to continue working closely with Tehran to further strengthen cooperation across all areas of mutual interest for the benefit of both nations.

Sharif also prayed for the Iranian leader’s good health and success and for peace, stability and prosperity for the people of Iran.

President Asif Ali Zardari separately congratulated Khamenei on his appointment and expressed hope that the development would contribute to stability in the region.

The letter comes at a time of heightened tensions in the Middle East following escalating conflict involving Iran and regional powers
